Curriculum and Resource Recommendations
Parents often ask how to support their child’s reading at home. We recommend the following secular, structured literacy–aligned curricula, decodable books, and resources to reinforce the skills we are building at Reading Reach Literacy Center.
Decodable Books for Early Readers
“Evidence suggests that phonics teaching is more effective when children are given immediate opportunities to apply what they have learned to their reading" (Hatcher, Hulme, & Ellis, 1994). Experts agree that kids need targeted phonics practice in connected text, such as decodable books.
Decodable text supports systematic phonics instruction and plays a crucial role in supporting striving readers until decoding becomes more automatic and word recognition excels.
